    Here is a small recording I made with the help of garage band. The piano and synth are generated by Magenta's neural network. The first two measures of the drums are also generated with magenta's RNN. The guitar and the barely audible bass are the only instruments played by human (me). I’ll discuss Magenta, a Google Brain project investigating music and art generation using deep learning and reinforcement learning. I’ll describe the goals of Magenta and how it fits into the general trend of AI moving into our daily lives. One crucial question is: Where does AI and Machine Learning fit in the creative process? I’ll argue that it’s about augmenting and extending the artist rather than just creating artifacts (songs, paintings, etc.) with machines. I’ll talk about two recent projects. In the first, we explore the use of recurrent neural networks to extend musical phrases in different ways. In the second we look at teaching a neural network to draw with strokes. This will be a high-level overview talk with no need for knowledge of AI or Machine Learning. July 16, 2016 Magenta update caused changes, that have been repaired. Using Tensorflow Version 0.9 and Magenta I have made a github site with bash files to automatically install and run what is needed to get a starting point with Google's Deep Learning Neural Network Artificial Intelligence software on a Linux machine, tested on Ubuntu versions 14.04 and 15.10 My github site is at https://github.com/hpssjellis/google-magenta-midi-music-on-linux-hello-world after cloning the repository git clone https://github.com/hpssjellis/google-magenta-midi-music-on-linux-hello-world.git then enter the directory cd google-magenta-midi-music-on-linux-hello-world bash setup.sh And the bash scripts do the rest: install Bazel, Tensorflow and Magenta then activate the bash file a01-helloworld.sh To activate the other bash files you need to migrate to the magenta main folder cd ~/mymagenta/magenta Then activate the other bash files. example bash a01-rnn_basic.sh Note the other two bash file a02... and a03... have other useful abilities. Presently trying to get Magenta working on Cloud 9 http://c9.io so windows users can try installing it on a virtual online ubuntu box, but the free Cloud9 does not allow the approximate 3Gb of storage needed. Not really sure if people would pay the $19.00 / month to be able to play around with Machine Learning Music. Write a comment if you would. Use at your own risk! Here is a small recording I made with the help of garage band. The piano and synth are generated by Magenta's neural network. The first two measures of the drums are also generated with magenta's RNN. The guitar and the barely audible bass are the only instruments played by human (me). I'll definitely make more since this was basically just a test.
